In reality, the value comes from reading the pattern, not chasing a single number. If you understand what each marker is hinting at, and how lifestyle, medicines, alcohol, weight, and sleep can nudge them, the result sheet starts to feel a lot less opaque. - [What Is Sports Therapy: A Complete Guide](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/08/03/what-is-sports-therapy/): You can ignore a sore shoulder for a while, blame a stiff neck on your desk, or assume a knee that aches after every run will settle on its own. Then the same pain keeps showing up. You rest, stretch, take it easier for a few days, and the problem returns as soon as you move the way you normally do. - [Vitamin Deficiency Test UK: Symptoms & Next Steps](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/08/01/vitamin-deficiency-test-uk/): You're at your desk in Bristol, your energy's been off for weeks, and the question keeps circling back. It gives you a live pattern, not just a single reading, which is why it can be so useful when meals, exercise, stress, or insulin make glucose swing around. - [Understanding the Difference Between NHS and Private GP Appointments In the UK](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/07/26/understanding-the-difference-between-nhs-and-private-gp-appointments-in-the-uk/): The NHS provides an invaluable service, delivering high-quality healthcare to millions of people across the UK. However, increasing demand has placed significant pressure on primary care, with NHS England recording around 30 million GP appointments in May 2026 alone.  - [Shoulder Impingement Exercises: A Practical Recovery Guide](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/07/25/shoulder-impingement-exercises/): You've probably had the same moment many busy people do. You reach for a seatbelt, lift a mug from a high shelf, or roll onto your side at night, and a sharp, stubborn pain catches the front or outer part of the shoulder. That's the point where people start searching for shoulder impingement exercises, hoping for a quick list that'll sort it out. What usually works better is a staged loading programme, where the shoulder is calmed down first, then rebuilt with the right mix of mobility, rotator cuff work, scapular control, and day-to-day changes that stop the same irritation from coming straight back. - [What Is Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and How Can It Help?](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/07/20/what-is-musculoskeletal-physiotherapy/): In a recent report by Arthritis UK, they found that over 20.8 million people in the UK live with an MSK condition. This is typically characterised by pain and limitations in mobility and dexterity, including conditions such as arthritis, back and neck pain, and fibromyalgia, as well as other musculoskeletal conditions such as osteoporosis, which may be painless. - [Your Guide to a Full Private Health Check in the UK](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/07/15/your-guide-to-a-full-private-health-check-in-the-uk/): Think of a private health check as a comprehensive MOT for your body. It’s not about waiting for a warning light to flash on your dashboard; it’s a proactive look under the bonnet to spot any potential issues before they turn into serious problems. - [Tendonitis in Finger: Causes, Symptoms, & Relief](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/07/13/tendonitis-in-finger/): A tendon is the structure that connects muscle to bone. In the hand, tendons let your fingers bend and straighten smoothly. When one of these tendons becomes irritated, or the lining around it becomes inflamed, movement starts to feel less smooth and more effortful. That's what people usually mean when they talk about tendonitis in finger problems. - [Most Common Cancers UK in 2026: Symptoms & Prevention](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/07/06/most-common-cancers-uk/): For people searching for the most common cancers UK data, the useful question isn't just which cancers top the list. It's what you can do now. That includes attending NHS screening when you're invited, reducing avoidable risks, and using longer GP appointments when you need time to make a proper plan. Readers who also want a broader prevention mindset may find Hirschfeld Oncology's guide to annual preventive care a helpful companion. - [How to Treat Tennis Elbow: A GP’s Step-by-Step Guide](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/07/04/treat-tennis-elbow/): Developing tennis elbow rarely involves a dramatic event. Instead, the tendon is often overloaded gradually through activities like work, training, DIY, gardening, childcare, gym sessions, or extended time at a keyboard and mouse. The good news is that, in most cases, you can treat tennis elbow effectively with a clear plan, sensible pacing, and a bit of patience. - [Plantar Fasciitis Recovery Time: Your 2026 UK Guide](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/29/plantar-fasciitis-recovery-time/): Most plantar fasciitis cases start to improve within 6 to 8 weeks of consistent conservative care, and 80 to 90% of people recover fully within 12 months when they follow a structured plan. But plantar fasciitis recovery time is highly individual, and if your symptoms are already chronic or your job keeps you on your feet, recovery can stretch to 12 to 18 months or longer. - [Glucose Tolerance Test: Prepare & Understand Results](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/27/glucose-tolerance-test/): You may have been told to book a glucose tolerance test after a routine blood result, because diabetes runs in your family, or during pregnancy when a midwife wants a clearer picture of how your body is handling sugar. That can feel inconvenient and a little worrying, especially if you're not quite sure what the test is looking for. - [Driving Medical Assessment: A UK Guide for 2026](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/25/driving-medical-assessment/): A driving medical assessment can feel personal in a way other forms don't. It isn't just paperwork. It touches work, family logistics, confidence, and routine. The good news is that this process is usually far easier to handle once you understand what's being asked, why it's being asked, and what you can do to prepare well. - [Health Screening for Employees: A UK Guide for 2026](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/24/health-screening-for-employees/): For a business owner, that means two things. First, a person can look well, perform well, and still carry a serious hidden health risk. Second, health screening for employees isn't just an HR perk. It can be an early warning system that protects people, reduces avoidable disruption, and creates a healthier, steadier workforce. - [Remote Health Monitoring: A Comprehensive Guide](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/23/remote-health-monitoring/): That gap is where remote health monitoring becomes useful. Done well, it isn't about turning life into a spreadsheet. It's about noticing patterns early, connecting home measurements to clinical judgement, and making small, timely changes before a problem grows. - [Tennis Elbow Recovery Time: Full Guide for 2026](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/22/tennis-elbow-recovery-time/): 90% of people with tennis elbow symptoms are expected to make a full recovery within a year, but the overall recovery window can still range from 6 months to 2 years. That's why the crucial question regarding tennis elbow recovery time isn't just “how long until it stops hurting?”, but “when is the tendon fully ready for normal work, training, lifting, and sport again?” - [Ligament Injury Treatment: Your Full Recovery Guide](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/21/ligament-injury-treatment/): Good ligament injury treatment is structured. It moves from protection to loading, from swelling control to strength, from fear of movement to confident function. If you understand that from the start, the injury feels less chaotic and much more manageable. - [Elevate Your Game: Expert Sports Performance Coaching](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/20/sports-performance-coaching/): Sports performance coaching works best when it treats performance as a whole-body issue, not a willpower issue. Done properly, it combines training, recovery, nutrition, movement quality, and medical context so that effort finally translates into progress. - [Private Echocardiogram Cost: A UK Patient’s Guide 2026](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/19/private-echocardiogram-cost/): The private echocardiogram cost isn't just a fee for an ultrasound appointment. You're often paying for speed, for a clearly written report, for a shorter path to clinical decision-making, and sometimes for peace of mind. The important part is knowing when that extra value matters, and when it may not. - [Smoking Cessation Support: Build Your 2026 Quit Plan](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/18/smoking-cessation-support/): There are several routes into smoking cessation support. Some people do well with nicotine replacement therapy such as patches, gum, or lozenges. Some need prescription treatment. Some choose vaping as a harm-reduction option. Many do best when medication is paired with behavioural support, follow-up, and practical lifestyle changes that make cravings more manageable. - [What Is Rotator Cuff Injury: Symptoms & Treatments](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/17/what-is-rotator-cuff-injury/): A rotator cuff injury sits on a spectrum. It can mean irritation of the tendons, inflammation around them, fraying, or a tear. It can happen after an accident, but it can also develop gradually over time. That's why the question “what is rotator cuff injury?” doesn't have a one-line answer. It's really a question about how the shoulder moves, how tendons age, and how doctors decide what matters clinically. - [Gut Microbiome Testing UK: Your 2026 Guide](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/16/gut-microbiome-testing-uk/): That gap between research growth and clinical usefulness is the central issue in gut microbiome testing UK patients need to understand. - [Find Bowel Cancer Screening Private in the UK for 2026](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/15/bowel-cancer-screening-private/): If you're searching for private bowel cancer screening, you're probably in one of a few situations. You've had your NHS invite and want to understand whether private testing offers anything extra. You're younger than the NHS screening age but feeling uneasy because of family history or a recent health scare. Or you just want quicker answers and a clearer plan. - [Private Ultrasound Scan: A Guide to Faster Diagnosis](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/14/private-ultrasound-scan/): That's where a private ultrasound scan can be useful. The value isn't merely speed. It's whether the scan gives information that changes what you do next, whether that means reassurance based on a proper assessment, a treatment plan, physiotherapy, medication review, or a referral into the right specialist pathway. - [Hot Flushes After Eating: Causes and When to See a GP](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/13/hot-flushes-after-eating/): In practice, hot flushes after eating usually fall into a few broad patterns. Sometimes they're part of menopause and are made worse by common food triggers. Sometimes they're linked to the act of eating itself, particularly if you go long stretches without food and then have a meal. And sometimes they point to something more specific, such as a food intolerance pattern, diabetes-related autonomic symptoms, or another condition that deserves proper assessment. - [Wellbeing Coaching: Your Path to Better Health](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/12/wellbeing-coaching/): Often, individuals drawn to wellbeing coaching aren't in crisis. They're functioning, turning up to work, keeping family life moving, replying to messages, meeting deadlines. But they also know something is off. Sleep is lighter than it used to be. Exercise happens in bursts, then disappears. Food becomes whatever fits between meetings. Stress sits in the background all day, then shows up as irritability, headaches, poor concentration, or a sense that life has narrowed into pure maintenance. - [Knee Injuries Symptoms: A Guide to Pain, Causes, and Care](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/11/knee-injuries-symptoms/): That's where knee injuries symptoms become useful. A pop doesn't always mean the same thing. Swelling can point to a sports injury, but it can also appear with arthritis, gout, or infection. Locking, catching, stiffness, and pain with movement matter, but their meaning changes depending on where the pain sits, what triggered it, and whether you can still trust the leg. - [Shoulder Pain Relief: Expert Tips for 2026](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/10/shoulder-pain-relief/): Facing shoulder pain, individuals often attempt one of two extremes: either pushing through and hoping it settles, or stopping use of the arm almost entirely. Neither approach is usually the right one. Good shoulder pain relief is usually more deliberate than that. It means calming the irritation, keeping safe movement going, and rebuilding strength in a way the joint can tolerate. - [Cold vs Flu: Symptoms, Duration, and When to See a Doctor](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/09/cold-vs-flu/): For busy professionals, parents, and athletes, the practical question isn't only cold vs flu. It's what now. How much rest is enough, what helps recovery, what doesn't, and when should you stop self-managing and seek medical advice? That's the decision-making lens that matters most in real life. - [Sports Injury Treatment: Your Expert Recovery Guide](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/08/sports-injury-treatment/): The problem is that online advice often swings between two extremes. One side tells you every injury needs total rest. The other pushes an aggressive return far too early. Good sports injury treatment sits in the middle. It protects the injured area, calms symptoms, restores movement, rebuilds strength, and only then returns you to full activity. - [How to Fast Before Blood Test: 2026 Patient Guide](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/07/fast-before-blood-test/): If you've been told to fast before a blood test, the usual preparation is 8 to 12 hours with plain water only. The reason is simple: it helps your blood sample reflect a steadier baseline, especially for tests such as glucose and triglycerides, which can change after you eat. - [A Busy Professional’s Guide to a Mental Health Care Plan](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/06/mental-health-care-plan/): A mental health care plan is a structured way to stop drifting and start acting. Think of it as a practical roadmap made with a clinician. It should help you define what's wrong, what matters most, what support fits your situation, and what to do if things worsen. - [CT Scan Cost UK: A Patient’s Guide to Private Pricing 2026](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/05/ct-scan-cost/): A good decision about CT scan cost isn't just about finding the cheapest scanner. It's about deciding whether the scan is the right test, what the full private pathway will cost, and whether paying for speed will change your care. - [Ear Pinning Cost UK: A 2026 Guide to Otoplasty Prices](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/04/ear-pinning-cost/): If you are in Bristol or the wider South West, ask a better question than “What does ear pinning cost?” Ask, “What will I pay in total, and has a GP confirmed this is the right step for me?” That question protects both your finances and your outcome. - [UK Gastric Band Prices: Your 2026 Cost & Value Guide](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/03/gastric-band-prices/): Private gastric band prices in the UK usually sit around £4,500 to £8,000, but that starting figure is only one part of the full financial and health commitment. If you're comparing quotes right now, the most important question isn't only what the operation costs today, but what the band may cost you to live with over time. - [Private Smear Tests: A Guide to Your Options in 2026](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/02/private-smear-tests/): That reaction is common. Cervical screening is one of the most useful preventive tests we have, but it can still feel awkward, rushed, or hard to organise around work, childcare, travel, or anxiety. For some people, private smear tests are mainly about convenience. For others, they're about having enough time to ask the questions they didn't get to ask before. - [How Long Do Tendons Take to Heal: Understanding Tendon](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/06/01/how-long-do-tendons-take-to-heal/): Mild tendon injuries often improve within 2 to 3 weeks, but more significant tears or ruptures commonly need 12 to 16 weeks for initial healing, and full tendon remodelling can continue for longer than 12 months. That's why a single answer to how long do tendons take to heal is misleading. The tendon can feel calmer well before it is structurally ready for sport, lifting, or repeated high load. - [Tests for Epilepsy: A Patient’s Guide to Diagnosis](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/31/tests-for-epilepsy/): Think of tests for epilepsy as tools that help sharpen the picture. One looks at brain electrical activity. Another looks at brain structure. Others help rule out conditions that can mimic seizures. - [A Clinician’s Guide to High Protein Vegetarian Diets](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/30/high-protein-vegetarian-diets/): A high-protein vegetarian diet is an effective lifestyle choice for improving your health. It involves intentionally building your meals around plant-based, dairy, or egg sources that pack a serious protein punch. This isn't about ditching your vegetarian principles; it's about elevating them to support health goals like building muscle, managing your weight, and achieving better appetite control. - [A Guide to Mammogram Screening Age in the UK](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/30/mammogram-screening-age/): One of the most common questions we hear is, “When should I start having mammograms?” It’s a great question, and the answer isn’t as simple as a single number. Your ideal mammogram screening age really depends on your personal health story. - [Your Guide to Every Test for Bowel Cancer](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/30/test-for-bowel-cancer/): Talking about our bowels isn't something most of us do every day, so it’s understandable if the topic feels a little strange or intimidating. This guide is here to change that. We want to give you a clear, reassuring overview of every common test for bowel cancer, explaining things in plain English. Think of it less as a reason to worry and more as a positive, powerful step in looking after yourself. - [A Practical Guide on How to Strengthen Knees](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/30/how-to-strengthen-knees/): By consistently practising these foundational movements, you are effectively reprogramming your body for better alignment and support. This isn't just a temporary fix. It's the essential first step in a long-term strategy for how to strengthen knees, dial down pain, and get your confidence back. Once you can nail these exercises with perfect form and zero discomfort, you know you're ready for the next level. - [Glandular Fever Blood Test: What It Means and How It Works](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/30/glandular-fever-blood-test/): When you're dealing with a persistent sore throat, crushing fatigue, and a lingering fever, it's easy to assume you just have a bad case of the flu or tonsillitis. But what if it’s something else? The only way to know for sure if the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is the culprit is with a glandular fever blood test. Getting that clear diagnosis is the essential first step towards a recovery plan that’s both safe and effective. - [Your Complete Guide to Understanding a Biochemistry Blood Test](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/30/biochemistry-blood-test/): A biochemistry blood test is one of the most common and powerful tools for assessing your health. It works by measuring the levels of different chemicals and enzymes circulating in your blood, giving a clear picture of what’s happening inside your body. - [Discharge after period: A Guide to What’s Normal and When to Seek Help](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/30/discharge-after-period/): It's completely normal to notice some vaginal discharge in the days after your period finishes. What you're seeing is simply a sign that your body is getting back to business – cleaning itself out and preparing for the next phase of your menstrual cycle. It’s mostly your system clearing away the last remnants of old blood and shifting gears towards ovulation. - [Pain Left Shoulder: Causes, Lifestyle Changes, and Seeking Relief](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/30/pain-left-shoulder/): That nagging ache in your left shoulder isn't just an inconvenience—it's your body trying to send you a message. While it’s tempting to blame a bad night’s sleep or an awkward lift, the source of shoulder pain isn’t always the shoulder itself. Learning to decipher that signal is the first, most crucial step toward getting the right help and taking control of your health. - [Gastric Balloon Pill: A Doctor’s Guide to This Non-Surgical Weight Loss Solution](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/30/gastric-balloon-pill/): That's the idea behind the gastric balloon pill. It’s a remarkable, non-surgical approach to weight loss. Essentially, it’s a soft balloon inside a small, swallowable capsule that, once in your stomach, is filled with water to help you feel full sooner and with smaller portions, providing a foundation for you to build healthier lifestyle habits. - [Can I Go to Work with Conjunctivitis? a UK Guide](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/30/can-i-go-to-work-with-conjunctivitis/): The most useful answer to “can I go to work with conjunctivitis?” is job-specific. - [How to Check Liver Function at Home](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/30/how-to-check-liver-function-at-home/): Written by Dr Jack Ogden, GP at The Lagom Clinic, Bristol - [Can High Cholesterol Make You Tired?](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/30/can-high-cholesterol-make-you-tired/): You’ve had blood tests, your cholesterol has come back raised, and you’re exhausted. It’s tempting to connect the two — and patients ask about this link more often than you might expect. The honest answer is that high cholesterol does not, in most people, cause tiredness directly. But that’s not the end of the story. There are several well-established indirect pathways through which raised cholesterol contributes to fatigue, a set of conditions where both problems tend to appear together, and one very common scenario where the tiredness is caused not by the cholesterol itself, but by the medication used to treat it. - [Lumps in Breast That Move: Causes & Next Steps](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/29/lumps-in-breast-that-move/): When patients first notice lumps in breast that move, they often ask the same question: “If it moves, does that mean it's harmless?” The honest answer is that mobility is reassuring, but not definitive. It points more often towards common benign causes, especially in younger women, but it doesn't replace an examination. - [Occupational Health Blood Test: A Complete Bristol Guide](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/28/occupational-health-blood-test/): You open an email from HR, see the words “occupational health blood test”, and your stomach drops a little. Many people immediately assume someone is looking for hidden illness, checking lifestyle choices, or deciding whether they're a “good employee”. Employers often have a different worry. They want to keep staff safe and stay compliant, but they don't want to overreach, breach confidentiality, or order the wrong test for the wrong reason. - [What Is Labiaplasty: UK Patient Guide 2026](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/27/what-is-labiaplasty/): That's the starting point for understanding what is labiaplasty in a UK setting. It isn't merely a beauty treatment. It sits in a more careful clinical space, where anatomy varies widely, symptoms matter, and consent matters just as much as technique. In the UK, the NHS frames female genital cosmetic surgery cautiously and emphasises that many requests relate to normal anatomical variation rather than disease, as reflected in international aesthetic genital surgery statistics and context. - [Can Stress Cause Spots? a GP’s Guide to Your Skin](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/26/can-stress-cause-spots/): A lot of confusion comes from the wording. People ask, can stress cause spots, when they're really asking one of three things: - [A Patient’s Guide to Face Peeling Treatment](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/25/face-peeling-treatment/): That's usually the point at which people start looking into a face peeling treatment. Some want brighter skin before an important event. Others are trying to manage persistent congestion, pigmentation, or rough texture. Most aren't looking for a dramatic transformation. They want their skin to look clearer, calmer, and more consistent without taking unnecessary risks. - [Anti Wrinkle Injections](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/24/anti-wrinkle-injections/): In the UK, anti wrinkle injections sit in a market that is no longer niche. A 2024 UK market summary said the UK skincare market was worth $4.14 billion in 2024, with over 900,000 botox injections administered annually, and it also recorded over 3,000 complaints about such procedures in 2022 (UK aesthetics market summary). Those numbers tell two stories at once. Demand is high, but so is the need for caution. - [Allergy Testing Cost in the UK: A 2026 Price Guide](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/23/allergy-testing-cost/): That confusion is understandable. Allergy testing cost isn't usually one number. It's often the cost of getting from symptoms to a safe, medically useful answer. - [The 10 Best Protein Foods for Your Health Goals](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/22/best-protein-foods/): Individuals asking about the best protein foods are really asking the wrong question. They focus on the highest protein number on the label, then end up with a diet that's repetitive, hard to sustain, and often less healthy than it looks. - [Barium Swallow Test: A Patient’s Guide for 2026](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/21/barium-swallow-test/): That's exactly where a barium swallow test can help. It's a practical imaging test that lets clinicians watch swallowing in real time, rather than guessing from symptoms alone. For many people, that makes the whole process feel less mysterious. You're not being sent for a random scan. You're being sent for a test that can show how food and liquid move through the oesophagus and whether there's a narrowing, a hold-up, or another structural reason for your symptoms. - [Best Sleeping Position For Back Pain: A UK GP’s Guide](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/20/best-sleeping-position-for-back-pain/): The practical takeaway is straightforward. The best sleeping position for back pain is the one that lets you stay comfortable without forcing the spine to sag, twist, or over-arch for hours at a time. - [Blood Test Abbreviation List: Quick Guide to Key Tests](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/19/blood-test-abbreviation-list/): A good blood test abbreviation list should do more than decode letters. It should connect a result to symptoms, lifestyle, repeat testing, and when to speak to a GP. That matters even more when quick clarification isn't easy to get. If you're curious about how blood tests are standardised behind the scenes, the OMOPHub LOINC API guide gives a useful look at the coding systems that sit underneath many results. - [Understanding Units of Alcohol in a Bottle of Wine](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/18/units-of-alcohol-in-a-bottle-of-wine/): As a private GP, I find that people rarely need more fear or guilt around alcohol. They need a clear way to measure it, put it in context, and make practical choices that protect sleep, mood, energy, blood pressure, and long-term health. That's what understanding the units of alcohol in a bottle of wine really gives you. Not a lecture. A tool. - [How to Remove Eye Bags: A Clinically Proven Plan](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/17/remove-eye-bags/): The reason is simple. Not all eye bags are the same. Some are temporary puffiness from fluid retention, allergies, salt, alcohol, or poor sleep. Others are structural changes in the lower eyelid, where fat pads become more visible as tissues weaken with age or because of genetics. If you want to remove eye bags effectively, the first step isn't buying another product. It's working out which type you have. - [Holistic Medicine for High Blood Pressure](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/16/holistic-medicine-for-high-blood-pressure/): In England, around 1 in 4 adults has high blood pressure. Many feel completely well until a reading at home, in clinic, or during a routine check shows otherwise. - [7 Disadvantages of Fartlek Training](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/15/disadvantages-of-fartlek-training/): For recreational runners, busy professionals, and athletes returning from injury, that lack of structure isn't just inconvenient. It can blur the line between productive training and avoidable strain. The disadvantages of fartlek training usually don't come from the concept of speed play itself. They come from using an unstructured tool when the body, the schedule, or the goal requires something more controlled. - [15 Top 30 Day Exercise Challenges for 2026](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/14/30-day-exercise-challenges/): That's where 30 day exercise challenges can help. A fixed time frame gives you a start point, an end point, and enough structure to stop overthinking. They can work well as a reset for busy professionals, parents, and anyone who needs a practical way back into movement. - [Hormone Imbalance Test NHS: A 2026 Guide to Your Health](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/13/hormone-imbalance-test-nhs/): That uncertainty is common. Hormone-related symptoms rarely arrive in a neat, textbook pattern. They overlap with busy lives, poor sleep, parenting, training, work stress, and ageing. That's why the phrase hormone imbalance test nhs gets searched so often. People want a clear route to answers, and they want to know whether the NHS can provide it. - [Neck Lift Surgery: A Patient’s Guide to Your Options](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/12/neck-lift-surgery/): That's often when people start searching for neck lift surgery. They want a firmer neckline, but they also want honest guidance. Not every neck needs surgery. Not every “mini” procedure is enough. And the result doesn't depend on the operation alone. Your skin quality, weight stability, smoking status, stress load, sleep, nutrition, and recovery habits all influence what surgery can achieve and how long it lasts. - [Do I Need Antidepressants? A 2026 UK Patient Guide](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/11/do-i-need-antidepressants/): You might be reading this late at night, exhausted, flat, tearful, or not feeling like yourself. Work feels harder than it should. Small tasks feel heavy. You may be sleeping badly, losing patience with people you love, or wondering whether this is “just stress” or something more. And the question keeps circling back. Do i need antidepressants? - [Nerve Root Block: Procedure, Risks, and Recovery 2026](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/10/nerve-root-block/): A lot of people come to clinic after trying the sensible things first. They've rested, stretched, taken pain relief, maybe even started physiotherapy, yet the nerve pain keeps cutting through. When that happens, a nerve root block can be a useful next step, not as a magic fix, but as a focused treatment that may calm the irritated nerve enough for you to move again. - [Hip Pain Treatment: Your Path to Relief](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/09/hip-pain-treatment/): The good news is that effective hip pain treatment usually starts well before surgery enters the conversation. In many cases, a careful diagnosis, the right exercise plan, sensible activity changes, and targeted medical support can calm symptoms and restore function. The key is knowing what kind of pain you're dealing with, what helps, and when home care isn't enough. - [How to Get Ozempic in the UK: NHS, Private Prescriptions, and What to Know](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/09/how-to-get-ozempic-uk/): If you are searching for how to get Ozempic in the UK, you are probably already aware that this medication has become one of the most talked-about treatments for weight loss in recent years. But the reality of accessing it — legally, safely, and with proper medical oversight — is more nuanced than most online sources suggest. - [D4 Medical Form: What It Is, What to Expect, and How to Book](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/09/d4-medical-form/): If you drive an HGV, bus or coach for a living — or you're applying for a Group 2 licence for the first time — the D4 medical form is something you'll need to get right. It's a DVLA requirement, not a formality, and it needs to be completed by a doctor who can assess you properly and provide a valid signature and stamp. This page explains exactly what the form involves, who needs one and how to get it done in Bristol without unnecessary delay. - [STI Symptoms in Women: What to Look For and When to Get Tested](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/09/sti-symptoms-female/): Most women who contract a sexually transmitted infection will not develop obvious symptoms. That single fact drives most of the clinical problems I see at The Lagom Clinic. A patient comes in feeling well, sometimes months or even years after exposure, and a routine screen picks up an infection that has been quietly present the whole time. By that point, the infection may have already caused complications that were entirely preventable with earlier testing. - [Low Progesterone Symptoms: What to Look For and What to Do About It](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/09/low-progesterone-symptoms/): This is one of the most frequently overlooked low progesterone symptoms. Because of progesterone's influence on GABA receptors in the brain, a drop in levels can trigger or worsen anxiety, low mood, tearfulness, and irritability — particularly in the second half of the cycle. Many women describe a sense of inner restlessness that they cannot explain. - [How Long Does a CT Scan Take? Your Complete Guide](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/08/how-long-does-a-ct-scan-take/): When you’re booked in for a medical test, one of the first questions that pops into your head is usually about time. So, how long does a CT scan take? - [Your Guide to Food Intolerance Test UK Options and Costs](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/08/food-intolerance-test-uk/): Do you find yourself constantly battling bloating, brain fog, or a sense of fatigue that just won't shift? For millions of us here in the UK, these aren't just the side effects of a busy life. They’re often the tell-tale signs of an undiagnosed food intolerance. A scientifically-backed food intolerance test in the UK is the first real step toward finding answers, helping you move from simply managing symptoms to achieving genuine, lasting health. - [The Top 10 Foods with Fibre for Optimal Health in 2026](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/08/foods-with-fibre/): This guide moves beyond generic advice to provide a clinically sound, practical roadmap for incorporating the most effective foods with fibre into your busy schedule. They don’t interfere with each other’s pathways because they work in completely separate ways. This is the secret to their combined strength. - [Your Beginner Swimming Workout to Build Confidence and Fitness](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/08/beginner-swimming-workout/): A simple beginner swimming workout breaks down into three core parts: a warm-up, a main set focused on short, achievable distances like 25 or 50 metres, and finally, a cool-down. The real goal here isn’t speed or distance; it’s about building a solid foundation with good technique and steady breathing in manageable 20-30 minute sessions as part of a healthier lifestyle. - [Finding Relief From Bad Lower Back Pain: A Practical Guide](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/08/bad-lower-back-pain/): That deep, nagging ache or sudden, sharp stab in your lower back isn't just a nuisance—it’s your body signaling that something needs to change. If you're wrestling with bad lower back pain, the first thing to know is you're far from alone. The second, and most important, is that there are practical, effective lifestyle changes you can make to manage the pain and reclaim your life. - [Passing Your Taxi Driver Medical Test: A Complete Guide](https://thelagom.co.uk/2026/05/08/taxi-driver-medical-test/): Before you can get behind the wheel as a professional taxi or private hire driver, your local council needs to know you're medically fit for the job. This is where the taxi driver medical test comes in. It's a mandatory health check, required by licensing authorities like Bristol City Council, to make sure you meet the strict DVLA Group 2 medical standards. ## Pages - [EQ questionnaire](https://thelagom.co.uk/eq/): html - [AQ-50 Questionnaire](https://thelagom.co.uk/aq-50/): html - [asrs](https://thelagom.co.uk/asrs/): window.location.replace("https://thelagom.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/lagom-asrs-form-v4.html"); - [SPQ](https://thelagom.co.uk/spq/): window.location.replace("https://thelagom.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/lagom-spq-form-v1.html"); - [Y-BOCS](https://thelagom.co.uk/y-bocs/): window.location.replace("https://thelagom.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/lagom-ybocs-form-v1.html"); - [AMS Questionnaire](https://thelagom.co.uk/ams/): window.location.replace("https://thelagom.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/lagom-ams-form-v1.html"); - [Treatments](https://thelagom.co.uk/treatments/): Explore our range of private treatments in Bristol, with personalised care delivered from our experienced clinical team. - [Tests and Screening](https://thelagom.co.uk/tests-screening/): Take a proactive approach to your health with private screening, diagnostic tests and blood tests in Bristol. - [See a Doctor](https://thelagom.co.uk/see-private-doctor-bristol/): Whether you need a general GP appointment, support with a specific health concern or aren't quite sure where to start, our doctors can help you find the right next step. - [Starting Testosterone Replacement Therapy — A Patient Guide](https://thelagom.co.uk/trt-patient-guide/): A comprehensive, evidence-based guide to testosterone replacement therapy at The Lagom Clinic Bristol. I saw Dr Nick Halsey for a consultation about taking a lifestyle approach to dealing with my Crohn’s disease and was really impressed. Dr Halsey was really warm and welcoming, taking the time to listen to my health issues and understand what I was hoping to achieve. I have tried various diets before with mixed success so it was great to get a clear explanation for how an anti-inflammatory diet could help and practical tips on how to incorporate this into my life. Dr Halsey also gave me some great advice about approaching exercise while living with IBD which has given me a lot to confidence to start tackling this aspect of my lifestyle. Overall, I was really impressed with the level of care and insight I received. Having felt a bit lost with how to improve my health, I now feel excited about taking the next step in my health journey. I can't express enough how grateful I am for the care I received at The Lagom Clinic. After struggling both physically and mentally and being unable to secure an appointment with my usual GP for over a month, I was at my wit's end. Thankfully, my wife found this clinic, and it turned out to be exactly what I needed. From the moment I walked in, Dr. Ogden made me feel heard and understood. He took the time to really listen to what I was going through and suggested a few tests to start with. The whole process was straightforward, and I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly I received my results. The reassurance from Dr. Ogden that everything looked alright was a huge relief and helped ease my stress considerably. I highly recommend The Lagom Clinic to anyone looking for compassionate, efficient, and professional care.
