Menopause

Expert menopause care, with time to get it right.

Menopause and perimenopause can affect far more than periods. They can alter sleep, mood, energy, concentration, confidence, body composition, libido, joint comfort and overall quality of life. Too many women are told to just put up with it, or are left trying to piece together advice from short appointments, social media, and trial and error.

At The Lagom Clinic, we offer private menopause care in Bristol with a more thoughtful approach. We combine medical expertise, clear explanations and a wider lifestyle perspective, so you can understand what is happening and decide on the right next step for you.

Your existing women’s health page already states that the clinic treats menopause, closely monitors symptoms and hormone levels, and provides holistic health and mental wellbeing support alongside treatment.

Specialist menopause care

We have a specialist menopause GP with years of experience in menopause care, who also trains other GPs in menopause management.

That matters because menopause treatment is not just about handing over a prescription. Good care depends on recognising patterns, understanding risk and benefit properly, tailoring treatment to the individual, and knowing when symptoms may have another cause.

Perimenopause and menopause are not the same for everyone

Some women come because they are having classic flushes and night sweats. Others come because they feel flat, anxious, exhausted, foggy, irritable, or unlike themselves and are not sure whether hormones are part of the problem.

Menopause care should start with proper listening and proper context. Symptoms can be shaped by age, cycle changes, contraception, sleep, stress, thyroid disease, mental health, iron levels, metabolic health and other factors. That is one reason a longer appointment is useful. Lagom’s wider GP model already makes space for 30-minute minimum consultations and longer appointments where needed.

The Lagom Menopause Clinic Bristol

How we can help

Our menopause appointments can include support with:

  • perimenopause symptom assessment
  • menopause diagnosis and discussion
  • HRT advice and prescribing where appropriate
  • review of existing HRT
  • symptoms such as flushes, night sweats, low mood, anxiety, brain fog, poor sleep, low libido and fatigue
  • hormone-related blood tests where clinically appropriate
  • lifestyle measures that can improve symptoms and long-term health

HRT is important, but it is not the whole story

Hormone replacement therapy can be extremely helpful for many women, but it is not the only part of good menopause care. Sleep, nutrition, movement, alcohol, strength training, stress load, mood and metabolic health all affect how you feel during this transition.

That is why our approach is not “prescription first and goodbye”. We look at the wider picture, explain options clearly, and help you find a plan that is realistic and sustainable.

Why patients choose us for menopause care

At The Lagom Clinic, menopause care is built around:

  • specialist GP expertise
  • longer appointments
  • personalised HRT advice where appropriate
  • close symptom review and monitoring
  • a whole-person approach to mental and physical wellbeing
  • the option of blood tests and onward referral where needed

If you are not sure whether it is menopause

That is a very common reason to book. Perimenopause can be easy to miss, especially when symptoms are subtle, inconsistent, or mixed in with stress, anxiety, poor sleep or other health changes.

A good menopause appointment should help answer three things:

  • is this likely to be perimenopause or menopause?
  • are there other causes that also need looking at?
  • what is the most sensible treatment plan from here?

I qualified from the University of East Anglia in 2010 and undertook GP training on the South Coast. As a GP with specialist focus on women’s health, I support patients from their first periods through to menopause and beyond. I’m particularly interested in helping women navigate complex or impactful symptoms – whether that’s difficult periods, contraception choices, or hormonal changes – with a focus on understanding what matters most to each individual.

I like to combine clinical expertise with education, aiming to help patients feel informed, confident, and in control of their health. Alongside clinical work I’m undertaking research in women’s health focussing on improving experiences and outcomes for women in real-world settings, trying to keep fit, and running around after my kids and puppy!

FAQs

Do you offer HRT?

Yes. The clinic offers HRT as part of menopause management and provides close monitoring of symptoms and hormone levels during treatment.

Not always. Blood tests can be useful in some situations, but they are not needed for every woman. We use them when they are clinically helpful, not as a default.

Yes. Menopause appointments can be used to review symptoms, assess whether current treatment is working, and decide whether any changes are needed.

A standard 30-minute GP appointment is the usual starting point, and a 60-minute appointment can be sensible for more complex concerns or multiple symptoms.

Dr Guest is a specialist in the menopause and women’s health, if further specialist input is needed, we have close connections with gynaecology and can make onward referral as necessary.
